showstoppers.

This past weekend was the company's second competition- Showstoppers! Showstoppers is by far my favorite competition. The lights, sets, and huge camera cranes make you feel like a superstar. When Starr and I were performing our duet, it felt like I was on So You Think You Can Dance. It's such a top notch and intense competition, I love it. Our jazz super group, which consists of the entire company.. 30 of us, won 1st overall! We freaked and started screaming when they announced we took 1st. The performance part and dancing on stage infront of others is by far the most rewarding part of competitive dance, but I have to admit winning the first place trophy for our studio at the awards ceremony felt pretty darn good. Bottom line, I dont dance for trophies and medals. I dance because I love it. I'm a competitive person by nature (in the dance and entertainment industry you have to be, if you think about it) and when a prize is offered I, of course, want to win. Even if dance competitions consisted of zero awards I would still do them without hesitation. I take part in competitive dance to grow and push myself to become a better dancer. I'm critiqued by jugdes from all around the country and professionals in the biz. It's such a rewarding and creative outlet. I walk away with a better knowledge and understanding of myself as a person and dancer everytime I compete.

Some people critisize "competition dancers" on having no heart or emotion when they dance... if they only knew how many times I've felt the need to cry after dancing an emotional contemporary piece.

from that dancer guy to you,

Tony
